Hello and welcome to The Southern Link. I really enjoy working around my home doing DIY (Do It Yourself) projects, home decor, design, and adding overall value to my home. Follow along as I transform furniture and rooms and I hope you share your projects with me too! I live on the coast of South Carolina so southern coastal colors and styles are my favorite!

God has blessed me with three children, a wonderful husband, and my pets a dog, cat, & hamster. They will definitley make their appearances and are huge influences on my plans each day.

As Summerville grows, I hope to be an asset to new families as they get to know the area and all that Charleston has to offer! I can't wait to link this community together and get to know my followers. Please join my email list for project tutorials and to be apart of The Southern Link!

Outdoor Projects

The garden is my escape. My reason to get fresh air and get my hands in the dirt. While some days it seems daunting, I always feel refreshed after time with my plants!

Planter Boxes

Today I worked on making planters for the woodboxes next to my fire place. The task was fun and has added so much color to the patio. As I was creating this I thought this would be a great last minute Mother's Day gift! I picked up everything for the planter from Lowe's Home Improvement and completed it all in just a few minutes.

The planter : Click Here

A few great things about this planter:

  1. Affordable
  2. Self Watering
  3. Drainage hole available
  4. Appealing
  5. Also could be used as a window box

The plants I used for FULL SUN!

  1. Fox Glove - Adds height
  2. Sun Patients - Adds fullness (They will continue to expand) I bought a full planter and separated the plants. This helps stretch your dollar.
  3. English Ivy

To finish off its always a good idea to soak some moss from the craft store in water and put over the soil to keep it from drying out in the hot sun.

Homemade Lemonade

The Best Chicken Marinade

Ingredients

  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar or other vinegar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce I use low sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • ⅛ cup lemon juice
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 2 tablespoon Dijon mustard or Spicy Brown mustard
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 chicken breasts or 3.5 lb chicken

Instructions

  • Combine all marinade ingredients in a large mixing bowl and whisk together. Remove a half a cup of marinade and reserve for basting the chicken later.
  • Place chicken in a large resealable bag and pour marinade over the top. Gently massage chicken breasts and be sure to close bag securely. (If you have less time, consider poking holes in the chicken with a fork to allow the marinade to penetrate quickly.)
  • Refrigerate chicken and marinate for at least 30 minutes and up to 24 hours. I find 4 to 6 hours to be perfect.

To grill

  • Preheat grill to medium high heat and lightly oil the grates.
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Grill chicken for 5 to 6 minutes on each side or until cooked through.
  • Baste the chicken occasionally with the reserved marinade.
  • Once the chicken has reached 165°F, remove chicken from grill and tent with foil. Let chicken rest for at least 5 minutes before serving
